The Hygge Sampler - Capturing Warm, Cozy, Calm and Comfortable.

As if quilts aren’t cozy enough, it’s time to make one that is even more cuddlier. Is that a word? Well, let’s make it one.. it’s time to get our HYGGE on.

HYGGE (pronounced “HOO GA”) is a Danish word that means coziness. A calm comfortable time with people you love. A complete absence of frustrations, or anything emotionally overwhelming, often enjoyed with good food and drinks, warm blankets, and candlelight.

Hygge is often associated with nature, arts and crafts, simple pleasures, and good company. Quilts and hygge go hand in hand, and this quilt pictures concepts of a hygge lifestyle in a fun sampler that will keep us cuddly-warm all year long.

The Hygge Sampler is set up as a 12-Month Block of the Month pattern, but it may be worked at your own pace as well. Start by choosing a focus fabric (like the Mammoth Plaid Flannel), then pull colors from there. A calming color palette and some cozy flannel or minky for the backing- Yes! The warmer, the fuzzier... the more hygge it will be.

THE HYGGE SAMPLER BLOCKS: The blocks selected for this Sampler/Block of the Month program are all pictures of objects that represent hygge concepts and lifestyle. You will make anywhere from 1 - 5 blocks per month. The BOM uses traditional piecing techniques, appliqué, basic foundation paper piecing and templates.

THE HYGGE SAMPLER will contain:

* 13 Patterns - 12 Block Patterns and 1 Setting Pattern.

* Instructions for Assembling the Quilt Top

WHAT SKILL LEVEL IS THE HYGGE SAMPLER? This is an intermediate pattern as far as piecing skills, applique, templates and foundation paper piecing techniques (used for 2 blocks). NO curves or y-seams.

Fabric Requirements for the Hygge Sampler (fabric in sample is all flannel for the quilt top - both Robert Kaufman Mammoth/Shetland Flannel and Riley Blake): SKUs listed on pattern. Selecting fabric is detailed in the pattern - choose a plaid first, then pull coordinating colors from it in lights and darks, etc. Read the Blog article on Choosing Fabric.

The $24 Fee is a ONE TIME Fee that includes all 12 Patterns, plus the setting instructions needed to make the quilt. Your fabric is purchased separately. The pattern in it’s entirety is emailed upon purchase. You may choose to sew along with me in 2021, I’ll be showing 2 blocks per month. Or sew at your own pace.
