Today I’m sharing a quilt finish……. loooooong time in the making. I started working on this Jack and Benny Quilt in November of 2018. I had to scroll way back on Instagram to figure out exactly when I started this project. In my on-again, off-again approach to this project, the final pics are proof that good things come to those who wait! It took forever… but it was worth it!
I selected a variety of grey prints from my stash. I wanted to put all shades in this quilt. I have lights, mediums and darks. Some are grey greys, some are more greige than grey. I think combining them makes the quilt more interesting in the end.
I worked on this quilt one block at a time. In an effort to speed up the scrappy part just a bit, I did sew strip sets for the four patch blocks in the corners and centers. This helped with making the 16 Irish Chain blocks and 9 Chain/Scrappy Stars for the Double size.
This quilt went together slow, but sure. When I first started working on it, I thought it would be for one of my boys with minky on the back. After I finished the top, I wait probably 6-8 months for grey minky to arrive at the shop. With all the supply chain issues during the pandemic, minky was in short supply. I finally decided to quit waiting and use some 108” Architextures I had on hand. Not sure if they make this in 108” anymore. I am so glad I went ahead and had it finished!
Estill at Red Rooster Quilts quilted this for me. I love the pattern that almost looks like a fern pattern across the quilt. Adds some visual interest to the serene and neutral color palette. Once it was quilted, I could really see that this quilt had way too much white to become one of my son’s quilts. lol
It’s gorgeously white - and not for little boy’s sticky hands!!
This quilt is going to live in a bedroom that houses guests. The room currently has one queen and one double bed. This 84” x 84” quilt is going on the double. And I’ve decided I need to make another one in the same tones in a queen/king size. Oi vey. Hope it doesn’t take another 4 years!
The 2 pictures below show the difference between the original bright and scrappy Jack and Benny quilt that I made, and the new serene and sophisticated one I made in greys and whites. What a huge change in personality! I absolutely adore this new “adult” sophisticated one!
