Summertime every year takes me back. Back to when life was carefree. Back to watermelon and popsicles. Back to splashing in the water in the hot sun. Back to sand between my toes.
This pattern captures that need to spend time near the water.
If you're a water baby and love that vacation feeling when you lose track of days and time, check out my new >>Lakeside Sampler Quilt Pattern<<. This new pattern was inspired by trips to the lake and the kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards that lazily float on by.
I couldn't resist making decorated oars into a sampler quilt pattern. After all, I absolutely love to create samplers of all shapes and sizes, and this particular take on a sampler had my lake lovin' heart. Wouldn't this quilt look perfect with these DIY Painted Oars??
The sampler bits of the pattern include: 2 striped oars, 3 Flying Geese oars, and 2 string block oars. Each oar has different color combinations in the best nautical primary colors of RJR's Cotton Supreme Solids.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND - FABRIC ORGANIZATION CHART!
GET ORGANIZED: I've included a special chart to help you choose the major colors and tones in your fabric stack for this quilt. It guides you on the number of colors, and light/med/dark shades of each. To get a similar look, choose 3 shades of blues to mimic the depth of water and a sand color along the top of the quilt. I suggest sticking to tone-on-tone prints and/or solids to really make the graphic shapes of the oars in this pattern pop.
Modern + Traditional Style
To complete the nautical look, I selected a red pin stripe binding (RJR Basic 2960-011). It came out perfect. I'm just loving this quilt for summer! Where are my shades and lemonade?
