It’s time to start the Hygge Sampler!!! Want to quilt along? This QAL will move along with one block per month over the next year. Please please feel free to take it at your own pace. When you purchase the pattern, you have the whole thing up front to accommodate when you have time to sew. We all know how unpredictable schedules are, so please sew when you can!

To kick things off for quilting along, we start with Block #1 Steaming Mug for the Hygge Sampler Quilt Pattern. What is hygge without a hot cuppa? The first quilt block in the sampler is an ode to your favorite hot bevvie. I'm drinking coffee with cream this morning. Mmm.
We make 5 of these Steaming Mug blocks this month to make a cute little row. As we get started on sewing this quilt, I want to take a moment to talk about sewing with a scant 1/4” seam. The scant 1/4” means sewing a slightly smaller seam allowance to account for the space or measurement that the thread and bulky fabric take up in the seam when pressing units open. If the seam and thread are not accounted for, then our blocks usually end up being smaller than they are supposed to be. When you add up lots of piecing within one quilt block, it can make a big difference and
WE WONDER WHY ALL OUR BLOCKS ARE OFF AND COME OUT SO SMALL?
I adjust my seam allowance when sewing so that my pressed open seams come out to the correct measurements for the unfinished block dimensions. It may take some trial and error to get this right. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE test this as we start sewing this quilt. It will make your life much easier if you adjust now, and have accurate block measurements. If you are sewing with flannel, you may have to adjust differently than if you are sewing with quilting cotton. Flannel is much bulkier in those seams.
Watch my Video Tutorial to find the Scant 1/4” here. There are suggestions for sewing machines with fixed and adjustable needle positions. A few minutes before you start will save many headaches down the road!
FABRIC Label organization CHART
Remember to use your Fabric Chart on Page 5. THIS PAGE IS CRUCIAL!!! Keep it with you for reference whenever you are cutting. You will easily know which fabric of yours is Fabric A, Fabric B, etc. when you use this handy chart and the cutting instructions for each block.
The Mug blocks contain the smallest piecing of this whole quilt. After this, we will be working with larger units and that will be helpful also. Now, get sippin’ your caffeine kick and get started!
